Mississippi State is losing a veteran defensive back to the transfer portal and a player with starting experience throughout the 2023 season.

DeCarlos Nicholson — a veteran cornerback who began his career at Mississippi Gulf CC — confirmed his move on social media. He spent 2 seasons with the Bulldogs and will have a year of eligibility left as a grad transfer.

“The past two years spent in Starkville have been filled with memories and lessons that’ll last a lifetime,” Nicholson wrote on social media. “I appreciate the Bulldog faithful for showing up and showint out every Saturday… With that being said, I will be entering my name in the transfer portal with 1 year of eligibility left as a grad transfer.”

Nicholson appeared in 25 games the past two seasons and made 7 career starts, all coming during the 2023 season. He finished the year with 42 total tackles, 2 TFLs and 2 pass breakups.
