Mississippi State improved to 10-2 on the season Saturday afternoon with a 70-60 win over Rutgers, once again down the services of star center Tolu Smith, who has yet to make his season debut for the Bulldogs after injuring his knee preseason.

This might be Mississippi State’s best win of the season, too. It comes at an away venue against a Rutgers team that had lost just 3 times prior to Saturday’s game.

The Bulldogs now have just 1 remaining game until the start of SEC play on January 6.

The Bulldogs are led by a pair of double-double performances from West Virginia transfer Jimmy Bell and veteran forward Cam Matthews. Bell finished with 17 points and 18 rebounds while Matthews finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Star Rutgers center Cliff Omoruyi did not record a single rebound as the Scarlet Knights were beat out 47-26 on the boards.
