Well, this one got ugly.

The No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs torched No. 11 Texas A&M 80-54 Thursday night in the SEC Tournament’s second round. With the loss, the Aggies’ rough season has come to an end, and it’s been reported that head coach Billy Kennedy won’t return.

For Mississippi State, however, it ensures a showdown with No. 3 Tennessee Friday night at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Thursday night’s game was never really close. MSU took a 38-23 halftime lead and only added to it in the second half. The 26-point margin of victory is certainly a big statement in the SEC Tournament.

The Bulldogs were led by Lamar Peters, who scored 15 points on 5-of-11 from the field. An efficient Lamar Peters is the best Lamar Peters. Tyson Carter also scored 14 points and shot 5-of-12 from the field. Quinndary Weatherspoon added 12 points in the victory.

For Texas A&M, Savion Flagg scored an game-high 21 points and shot 7-of-15 from the field.

Mississippi State advances to the quarterfinals and faces Tennessee Friday night at 9:00 p.m., and the way the Bulldogs are playing, this should be a great game.

In addition to MSU, Florida (beat Arkansas), Auburn (beat Missouri) and Alabama (beat Ole Miss) all advanced in the second round to play Friday.
