The New York Jets are trying to get down to a 53-man roster leading up to the season opener, and a former Mississippi State defensive back is one of the roster casualties.

Safety Brandon Bryant was cut, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Pro Football Talk reported that Bryant was diagnosed with a concussion last week after the Jets activated him July 30. He signed with the Jets in 2018 after he was not taken in the supplemental draft.

The Jets waived Bryant out of the 2018 preseason but signed him to the practice squad. He made the roster for the final regular-season game, but did not play.

Bryant left Mississippi State in the spring of 2018 after he had academic issues.

Bryant had a banner redshirt freshman season in 2015 and played in all 13 games with starts in the final eight games of the year. He was third among all SEC freshmen and first among SEC freshmen defensive backs with 63 tackles. He also led MSU and all SEC freshmen in interceptions with three.
