Mississippi State has extra motivation for Saturday’s game, and it doesn’t even come from the fact that the Bulldogs are coming off a loss to Kentucky last week.

Instead, it’s because Mississippi State’s former coach, Dan Mullen, will be on the visiting sideline with Florida at Davis Wade Stadium.

Because of that, SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic doesn’t think the Gators are ready for what they’re about to encounter. Bulldogs fans are always loud with their cowbells. But this Saturday, they have the added motivation of playing against the coach that left them.

“Florida doesn’t know what’s going to hit them when Mississippi State takes the field,” Cubelic said during a segment on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Friday. “This game is going to mean more to every Mississippi State player and every Mississippi State fan than it will ever mean to anybody putting on a Florida Gator uniform Saturday night. Yes, Dan Mullen helped build that, but these Mississippi State players and fans will take it personal Saturday night.”

In the video below, Cubelic explains that he knows this from personal experience. He played for Tommy Tuberville at Auburn. When the Tigers faced Ole Miss, Tuberville’s old team, Cubelic said the Rebels were playing with more fire – and they also remembered some of Tuberville’s calls and signals.

Mullen left Mississippi State to become Florida coach at the end of last season. He previously led the Bulldogs from 2009-17.

The No. 23 Bulldogs and Gators are set to kick off at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
