Zac Selmon addressed the firing of Zach Arnett Monday, addressing the timing of the situation as well as what he’s looking for in the next head coach of Mississippi State.

Arnett was fired Monday morning following Mississippi State’s 4-6 start and a lopsided loss to Texas A&M.

Selmon, the athletics director for Mississippi State, said that the decision to fire Arnett now rather than at the end of the season was made to give the Bulldogs a spark heading into the final 2 games. He also said he trusts interim head coach Greg Knox to handle recruiting well.

Now the search for a new head coach begins for Mississippi State. Selmon and his staff are going into the search looking for someone who can bring a winning mentality to Starkville.

“You always go into a search open-minded. You look for winning qualities,” Selmon said. “You know when you got winning DNA and want someone who can build culture…Someone that can recruit and how to develop talent.”
