DJ Coleman, a former Jacksonville State defensive end, has announced a commitment to play in the SEC.

The 6-foot-6 and 245-pound Atlanta native started all 13 games last season, and the last 2 seasons was named an All-OVC First Team defense member. Coleman announced he’s committed to Missouri. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.

Last season, Coleman finished with 55 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.

Coleman is the 10th transfer pickup for the Tigers during the 2022 cycle and seventh on the defensive side of the ball, 247Sports noted. Coleman was a second-team FCS All-American in 2021, and entered the transfer portal on March 9 and weighed offers from the likes of Duke, Baylor and Kansas in addition to Missouri. He also took a visit to Miami.

As a sophomore, Coleman started 11 of 13 games. He was also a third-team FCS All-American and had 59 total tackles, 10.5 for a loss, and paced the Gamecocks with 5 sacks.

The Tigers’ defensive end group is now coming into focus, as Mizzou returns starters Trajan Jeffcoat and Isaiah McGuire from last season. It also added graduate transfer Ty’Ron Hopper from North Carolina earlier in the offseason.

The Tigers clearly set out to remake the defense after last season’s disappointing effort.
