Eli Drinkwitz and the Mizzou Tigers fell to No. 23 LSU Saturday 49-39 after failing to finish a good start in Columbia.

Following the game, Drinkwitz was asked about the numerous “disconcerting signal” calls against both LSU and Mizzou. In total, it was called 3 times Saturday. And we’re willing to bet there are plenty of college football fans who have never even heard of the penalty before.

The rule is there to keep the defense from interfering with the snap count in any way, in this case specifically by defenders clapping their hands. For those watching the broadcast, it looked an awful lot like linebackers simply clapping at fellow defenders to get set ahead of the play.

When asked Saturday, Drinkwitz simply said “that’s a crew that calls that a lot.”

Plenty of fans were not happy with the way the game was called in general, and not just because of these types of penalties. All in all, it was far from the Zebra’s best performance.

Mizzou may have suffered a setback in Week 6, but the season is far from over. The Tigers have a key SEC East matchup against Kentucky next week in Lexington.
