Eli Drinkwitz understands that winning consecutive national titles is no easy feat.

Before the Georgia game, Drinkwitz sat down with media at Tuesday’s press conference. One of the first things Drinkwitz discussed was how Kirby Smart doesn’t get enough credit.

It was shocking to Drinkwitz that Smart has never won a National Coach of the Year award. The things Smart has accomplished in Athens are remarkable.

“It is going to be a very difficult challenge. I don’t think Coach Smart gets nearly enough credit for the job he’s done. Two national titles, played in five of the last six SEC Championships,” said Drinkwitz. “He’s got the best record in the first 100 games of the SEC. It’s really surprising to me that he’s never won a National Coach of the Year award.”

One thing that Smart has done well and recruiting and develop talent at an elite level. Drinkwitz also noted how the Bulldogs have also overcome plenty of challenges this season.

“The assumption is that things happen easily at that university, and he’s come in and done an outstanding job of not only recruiting but at an elite level and then developing those players to play at an elite level,” said Drinkwitz. “Nick Saban talks about it all the time. Winning creates its own set of challenges and they’ve overcome a lot of those.”
