Eli Drinkwitz has officially put Ben Straatmann on scholarship.

The program shared video from a team meeting this week where Straatmann learned the news.

“I just thank all of you guys for having me here,” Straatmann says in the video. “I’m going to give it all for you this season. As I hope you guys do too.”

Here’s the clip:

“It really hit me this summer when he’s going out, working construction and laying concrete,” Drinkwitz said. “But he just wanted an opportunity, man. I’m proud of you.”

Straatmann arrived at Mizzou this offseason after transferring from Missouri S&T. He’s been one of the best players in all of Division II as he broke the program’s single-season sack record with 14 in 2021.

Straatmann was the Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. He led Missouri S&T with 80 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 8 sacks.

He brings depth to a Missouri pass rush that also includes players like Darius Robinson and Joe Moore. Straatmann is originally from Washington, Missouri.

Mizzou opens the 2023 season against South Dakota on Aug. 31.
