Prior to the season, one of the big topics of discussion was whether Auburn and Mizzou should switch places, with Auburn moving to the SEC East and Mizzou flipping to the West.
Though commissioner Greg Sankey wouldn’t discuss it, the possibility was batted around in the media quite a bit.
On Wednesday, former Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel spoke to the Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club, saying he doesn’t know if the two sets of Tigers should switch divisions, but added that he hasn’t heard much serious discussion of the topic (via 247Sports):
“I donโt know,” he said. “Thatโs way bigger than me. I donโt know if theyโre going to keep flipping things around. It seems like Auburn is the one that always seems theyโre talking about. Thatโs the one I hear the most. Those really have not been long discussions at all in the SEC meetings that I was involved with.
“Things get up and down and things change. It wasnโt a while back when Tennessee was winning at a pretty high level. Florida was at a pretty high level. Look at what Georgiaโs doing now. Thereโs some great teams on both sides. Itโs remarkably competitive. You just have to hold on.”
Nothing is likely to happen anytime soon, but as long as the topic stays in the forefront of people’s minds, the possibility is there.
