Harrison Mevis sets SEC record with game-winning field goal; fans and media react
Harrison Mevis, aka the “Thiccer Kicker,” is beloved at Mizzou, and for good reason. He showed why on Saturday afternoon at Faurot Field against No. 15 Kansas State.
Tied 27-27 with only seconds remaining in the game, Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz made some bizarre coaching decisions to put Mevis in a bad position for a game-winning kick.
So what did Mevis do? Just hit a 61-yard field goal to win the game and save his coach from embarrassment:

Oh, and he also set an SEC record in the process.
Harrison Mevis' 61-yard FG was the longest in SEC history, per @ESPNStatsInfo.
The previous record was 60 done 3 times, most recently in 1984 by Georgia's Kevin Butler and Florida's Chris Perkins.

It is not a Mizzou record, as the Tigers had a 62-yard field goal in 1986:
Amazingly, Harrison Mevis' 61-yarder is not the longest in Mizzou history. But they lost that game in 1986 17-12 so this was a tad better pic.twitter.com/gXfsZit5hn

Still, what a kick by one of the best kickers in college football today. Here’s some of the reaction on social media to the kick:

Harrison Mevis at Mizzou was one of the SEC’s most productive young kickers and just put himself in the record books. Longest Kick in SEC history.

Mizzou is 3-0 for the first time since 2018. The Tigers have a top-15 win on their résumé. We’ll see how long they can keep their winning streak going moving forward. Mevis will be a big part of any close games the Tigers have the rest of the year.
