Just a few weeks out from their Citrus Bowl matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Missouri Tigers suffered a huge loss on offense.

Redshirt senior wide receiver Jimmie Hunt will miss the Citrus Bowl after having surgery on his left shoulder this past Wednesday, per an announcement from the university.

While Bud Sasser has been the team’s leading receiver all season, Hunt’s easily been the hottest receiver for the Tigers as of late. Over the course of Missouri’s past four games, Hunt has averaged 105.2 yards per game.

In the SEC Championship against Alabama, Missouri didn’t generate much offense, but whatever production it got it seemed Hunt was right in the middle of it all.

He’s a key weapon downfield for quarterback Maty Mauk, and with thin depth at receiver, Hunt’s absence could severely affect what’s already an inconsistent offense.

Because Hunt is a redshirt senior, this announcement all but prematurely ends Hunt’s Missouri career.

He is Missouri’s second-leading receiver this season with 40 receptions for 698 yards and seven touchdowns.
