The leadership at the University of Missouri introduced new athletics director Desiree Reed-Francois on Wednesday at a press conference where she outlined her vision for the program.

When she stepped to the podium after previous leaders welcomed her, she said, “Challenge accepted.”

Reed-Francois, who has been AD at UNLV since 2017, will replace Jim Sterk, who stepped down two weeks ago. She will become the second woman hired as an athletic director in the SEC after Candice Storey Lee was named AD at Vanderbilt last year.

Reed-Francois previously worked at Virginia Tech, where she oversaw day-to-day operations of the football program and at Tennessee, where she was the first woman to be the lead administrator of an SEC men’s basketball program.

In a positive presentation, Reed-Francois said, “We will keep what has worked and innovate for the future, and about the SEC, “I know this league. I know we can do this … We’re going to win SEC championships.”

Mizzou President Mun Choi noted that changes will be made, added, “I’m going to throw down the gauntlet. We’re not going to go from good to great. Today, we’re going to go from good to becoming champions, the very best.”

Finally, Reed-Francois added, “I will never ask more of anyone else that I will ask of myself. When I’m all in, I’m all in.”
