Most players look for motivation anywhere they can find it, and in the case of Missouri QB Drew Lock, it was on a social media platform he doesn’t even use anymore.

The final score was meaningful for Missouri because of what Lock received in the offseason from Tennessee fans, and former Tennessee-coach-turned-Missouri-offensive-coordinator Derek Dooley. For the second consecutive season, Missouri beat Tennessee 50-17, as the Tigers improved to 5-2 against Tennessee since entering the SEC.

“I think he wanted to be able to step on that field after he put a 50-ball on his old boys,” Lock said after Missouri’s win over Tennessee, according to 247 Sports. “It meant a lot to me, I know for sure, because I remember when we hired Coach Dooley. I thought about this as I was on the sideline and Taylor’s in there — just thinking about the big picture of this game. I still had Twitter at the time, and I was getting tagged in all these tweets from all these Tennessee people. Drew Lock has got Derek Dooley now. Here he goes down the drain blah blah blah. There goes Missouri. Hiring Derek Dooley, what’re you guys doing?”

Lock is considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he showed why with some of his throws at Tennessee. He was 21-for-30 passing for 257 yards and two TDs.

Winning any SEC game is especially enjoyable, but finishing off an opponent before you leave for the NFL with a coach that equally wants to prove something is a feeling Lock won’t soon forget.
