Chris Berman is an ESPN legend who’s been at the network since its humble beginnings as a regional cable option, but the 70-year-old knows that marriage won’t last forever.

And during an appearance this week on the CNBC Sport podcast with Alex Sherman, Berman shed light on when that marriage with ESPN will finally come to an end. Berman revealed to Sherman that he’s planning to retire at the end of this decade.

As a talent synonymous with ESPN and its array of sports presentations, Berman also shared that his current deal at the network lasts through the 2029 NFL season. That’s when he’s decided to call it quits after a legendary career full of amazing moments and amazing calls.

Berman has enjoyed a resurgence of sorts in recent NFL seasons. NFL Primetime, maybe his signature endeavor at ESPN, was relaunched as a streaming-exclusive series with new co-host Booger McFarland, a former star defensive lineman at LSU.

“I’m just so proud of what we’ve been from Day 1 to getting a Super Bowl,” Berman said during the podcast with CNBC Sport.

Berman words were a nod to ESPN getting its first-ever Super Bowl in 2027. The icon who’s still going strong at the network, at least until the end of this decade, will no doubt be a major part of ESPN’s Super Bowl coverage for the landmark event that it has nailed down for 2027.
