Arkansas is staying alive in Omaha.

The No. 3 national seed Razorbacks faced elimination on Monday after dropping their opening game to LSU. The Hogs defeated Murray State 3-0 thanks to Gage Wood’s historic no-hitter and 19 strikeouts.

Arkansas broke the scoring ice in the top of the 3rd inning when Charles Davalan singled, plating Reese Robinett. It turned out to be the only run the Razorbacks would need to score on Monday.

There was plenty of drama in the 1-0 game. Neither team scored in the 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th innings. Arkansas would leave 9 men on during the day, but that’s not what anyone will talk about.

Finally, in the 7th, the Hog bats gave Wood some insurance. Star shortstop Wehiwa Aloy doubled down the line to bring Justin Thomas Jr. home and make it 2-0. Davalan came home on a fielding error.

Making it 3-0 in the 7th gave Wood some breathing room as he finished off his historic task. The no-hitter is just the third in College World Series history and the 19 strikeouts are the most in a 9-inning game. Wood finished throwing 119 pitches, a career-high, to face 28 batters.
