Arkansas received a pair of insurance home runs in the top of the ninth, then held on to defeat Northeastern 10-9 to advance to the Lawrence Regional final.
Leading 8-6 going into the ninth, the Razorbacks saw Zach Stewart launch a leadoff homer to left, followed by a solo shot by Reese Robinett to make it 10-6. Those runs proved vital as the Huskies used a Will Fosberg two-run double and a Henry DiGregorio RBI single to pull within 10-9. But with the tying run at second with two out, Cooper Dorsett got Tyler Harmony to fly out to left as the Hogs escaped with the victory.
Arkansas took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. But Matt Brinker’s leadoff home run, followed by two-out singles by DiGregorio and Carter Bentley tied the game at 4-4. The Razorbacks responded, though, using a pair of two-run homers from Nolan Souza and Robinett to go up 8-4.
After AJ Ashchenttino pulled the Huskies within 8-6 in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run shot, the Hogs stretched their lead before Northeastern’s comeback bid came up just short.
Souza and Robinett each finished the game 3-for-5 and combined for nine RBI.
The Razorbacks will now need to beat host Kansas twice to secure back-to-back trips to Super Regionals. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET Sunday. If Arkansas wins, a deciding game will be played on Monday.
