For the third time in the past 4 seasons, Auburn is hosting an NCAA Regional.

The field for the Auburn Regional is 1-seed Auburn (No. 4 seed overall), 2-seed NC State, 3-seed Stetson and 4-seed Central Connecticut. After the Selection Monday reveal, AU skipper Butch Thompson shared his initial thoughts on the Tigers’ draw.

“Stetson, what a good ball club,” Thompson said of the Hatters. “Just, the last couple years they’v been incredible, exceptional. Anybody in college baseball, when you play a 56-game schedule, that walks into postseason with 40+ wins, have absolutely dominated what’s been in front of them.

“Central Connecticut, our coaches will be learning more and more. Scott Foxhall, on our staff, was at NC State. We’ve been there for a Regional. Elliott Avent is one of the best in the business and just a treat, an amazing coach for a long period of time that everybody in my spot looks up to, and Omaha experience, and etc. So I think we have a very well-rounded field here.”

Game 1 of the Auburn Regional will feature Stetson vs. NC State. Auburn will then play Central Connecticut in Game 2. Depending on outcomes, AU will play either Stetson or NC State on Saturday.
