Deiten Lachance wasn’t out to make history on Saturday afternoon. He just wanted to help Oklahoma beat North Carolina in Game 1 of the College World Series Finals in Omaha.

But he managed to do both, belting 2 home runs in the 9-3 victory that helped the Sooners get within 1 victory of their first national title since 1994. Lachance joined a very exclusive club with his multi-homer performance in a CWS Finals game, becoming only the fifth player to accomplish the feat.

Lachance smacked a 2-run home run in the first inning and added a solo shot in the third frame. The Sooners catcher had 3 hits on the afternoon, but it was those home runs that kept Oklahoma afloat early in the game and put his name on the very short list of players to belt multi homers in a CWS Finals game.

The last players to do it were both from the SEC and both from Florida, with Ty Evans and Jac Caglianone both pulling it off for the Gators during the 2023 CWS Finals.

Here is the complete list of players to do it:

With Game 2 of the CWS Finals coming up on Sunday afternoon (2:30 p.m. ET, ABC), Lachance will have more chances to hit more home runs as he tries to lead Oklahoma to the promised land in Omaha.

Lachance was 1 of the heroes of Oklahoma’s Game 1 victory, but the Sooners still have to win another game to be national champions. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about their chances to do just that and knock off North Carolina in Omaha:
