Gage Wood had a simple message for Arkansas fans after making history in Omaha in the win over Murray State. The Razorbacks are still in the College World Series.
During Monday’s postgame press conference, Wood was asked if he had anything to say back to the fans in Arkansas.
“We’re not done yet,” the pitcher offered.
Arkansas was facing elimination after dropping its opening game to LSU. It’s a tall task to make it out of the loser’s bracket, but Wood has undoubtedly kept the Hogs in contention.
Wood delivered a performance that will be talked about for years. He went all 9 innings, taking a perfect game into the 8th inning. Wood needed 119 pitches to log 27 outs on 28 batters faced, striking out 19 Murray State batters in the process, a 9-inning record in the College World Series.
Arkansas has a quick turnaround, returning to action on Tuesday night in another elimination game. The path for the Razorbacks to the CWS Finals is to win the next 3 games. That takes winning an extra game, as the teams to go up 2-0 in the bracket will get a day off.
It takes pitching depth to win an extra game, but when a pitcher like Wood pitches all 9 innings, it goes a long way in keeping arms fresh for the next 3 days.
No one works a postgame mic like Gage Wood.
