LSU has won 2 of college baseball’s last 3 national championships. Jay Johnson’s team has its sights set on going 3-of-4, and the Tigers are a popular pick to host the trophy again in Omaha this summer.
On Tuesday, D1Baseball shared the results of its survey of 279 programs. LSU was far and away the most popular pick to win the 2026 national championship, receiving 99 votes. UCLA came in second with 43 votes. Spots 3-6 were claimed by Texas (27 votes), Arkansas (24), Mississippi State (16) and Tennessee (10). Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Vanderbilt also received votes.

The survey results are just the latest sign of the hype surrounding the defending national champions. LSU was recently picked by the SEC coaches to finish first in the conference. Though LSU won it all in last year’s College World Series, the Tigers were not SEC champions last season. Texas, in its first SEC season, claimed the regular-season title. Vanderbilt won the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama.
LSU opens the season against Milwaukee on Friday. First pitch at Alex Box Stadium is set for 3 p.m. ET.
