Mississippi State jumps out to 7-0 lead over Georgia in Game 1
Mississippi State drew first blood early on in Game 1 of the Athens Super Regional on Saturday.
UGA is the No. 3 overall seed and was a big favorite entering the series, but State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after just 2 innings of play in Game 1. Mississippi State scored 6 runs in the top of the 2nd inning and then tacked on another run in the top of the 4th to make it 7-0.
The homer came via Kevin Milewski, who led off the 4th frame:
This was Mississippi State’s second homer of the game, as Reed Stallman also went yard earlier in the game with a 3-run homer.

Georgia had an opportunity to limit State’s damage to 3 runs, but a crucial error from Kenny Ishikawa allowed 3 more unearned runs to score in the frame. With 2 outs in the inning, Ishikawa overran a fly ball to deep left field and ultimately dropped what would have been the third out.
Two runs scored on Ishikawa’s error and a 3rd unearned run came home on an RBI single later in the inning. It was Ishikawa’s first field error of the 2026 season.
Game 2 of this series is scheduled for Sunday. The winner of the Super Regional will head to Omaha to play in the College World Series.
