Tennessee lands commitment from standout transfer catcher Garrett Wright

Tennessee baseball made a big pickup for its 2026 roster.

Garrett Wright is bringing his talents to Rocky Top. The standout Bowling Green catcher reportedly told Tony Vitello that he plans to continue his career at Tennessee.

Wright heads to Knoxville for his junior season after earning All-MAC recognition as a freshman and a sophomore. He was the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year for 2025. Listed as a catcher, Wright played 5 different positions in 2025. His fielding percentage was .991.

Defense is important at catcher, but Wright also brings a big bat. For his career, Wright slashes .396/.509/.631. In 94 games (92 starts), he has logged 331 at-bats and 37 walks, posting 131 hits, including 14 home runs and 28 doubles, collecting 76 RBIs.

In 2024, as a freshman, Wright played in 40 games, starting 38 times. Over 129 ABs, Wright slashed .380/.503/.581 while logging 49 hits, 6 home runs and 28 RBIs.

As a sophomore, Wright received more playing time and his hitting numbers went up across the board. Wright slashed .406/.513/.663 in the 2025 season. He recorded 82 hits, including a program-record 20 doubles and 8 home runs, notching 48 RBIs.
