Tony Vitello has landed a big-time transfer out of the portal.

Rice standout Blaine Brown is taking his talents to Rocky Top. Brown announced his commitment to Tennessee on Thursday via social media.

An outfielder and left-handed pitcher, Brown measures 6-3 and 180 pounds. He earned Freshman All-American and All-AAC recognition for his impressive work at the plate in 2025.

Brown was Rice’s hitting leader in batting average (.292), slugging percentage (.493), hits (61), RBIs (38), doubles (12), home runs (10), total bases (103) and multi-hit games (18) this past season. Logging 209 at-bats, 21 walks and 3 HBPs, he posted a slash line of .292/.362/.493.

Brown is already on the 2027 MLB Draft radar after a standout freshman season.

Brown is a 2-way player as he also pitches. He was limited to 4.1 innings over 7 innings, and the small sample size produces some rough stats, including a 20.77 ERA. Of 38 batters faced, he walked 12 and struck out 6.

While there’s work to do on the mound, the bat is sure to have an instant impact for a Vol squad with Omaha goals.
