Potential No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa has officially declared for the NBA Draft.

This was the expected move for the standout BYU forward, who surprised a lot of people when he committed to play for the Cougars out of high school. Dybantsa is an exceptional athlete and a strong defender. He’s drawn comparisons to former NBA star Tracy McGrady with how effortlessly he can get to the basket, using his length and size to his advantage. By all accounts, Dybantsa could be a scoring machine at the next level.

This past season at BYU Dybantsa averaged 25.5 points (first in DI), 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 51% from the field.

Here’s a look at the latest odds to be selected No. 1 overall, per Kalshi:

Despite this being the expected move, Dybantsa mentioned during the season that a return to BYU was always on the table. The Brockton, Massachusetts native has seemed to take a liking to the Beehive State, and there’s even a chance he could stay in Utah if the Jazz get lucky in the upcoming lottery.

Utah will likely have to secure the No. 1 pick to feel good about keeping him in-state, however. While Cam Boozer and Darryn Peterson are certainly candidates to go No. 1 overall depending on best fit, Dybantsa is perhaps the “safest” option for a team looking to take a swing at a potential all-star.
