Alex Condon will be at the center — literally and figuratively — of attention for Florida as it seeks a second national championship in three years.
The Australian big man entered Thursday’s home opener against Jacksonville looking to build on a decent night against Miami in Tampa on Monday. In 26 minutes, he posted 11 points, seven rebounds, a block, and three assists.
Condon filled the statsheet against the Dolphins, though. He finished the evening with 12 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, and three blocks. You don’t see eight assists from a big man every week. In fact, per Gators SID Denver Parler, the last time an SEC player recorded a traditional double-double with at least seven assists and three blocks was on Dec. 2, 2015. That player? Ben Simmons at LSU.
First SEC player to post a double-double with 7+ assists & 3+ blocks since LSU’s Ben Simmons (12/2/15 vs. UNF). https://t.co/T5YS5QtdLo

The Gators were barely challenged on their way to a 2-0 start, building a 50-28 halftime lead over Jacksonville and cruising to an 88-57 win. Obviously, every game won’t be that easy for the preseason No. 1, but they’re at least beating the teams they should beat.
Florida will return to action on Tuesday as it pays a visit to Florida State before returning home to face Marrimack on November 13.
