The 2026-27 college basketball season is set to begin in early November, and programs across the country are gearing up to make a run at what they hope will be March Madness glory come springtime.
Actual in-game action may still be a few weeks away, but that hasn’t stopped coaches from hitting the recruiting trail in an effort to secure commitments from the top high school players in the upcoming class.
The Florida Gators and head coach Todd Golden picked up a massive win on the trail Wednesday afternoon when highly coveted 4-star center Kamsi Awaka officially announced his commitment to the Gators.
A New Jersey native, the 6’10, 250-pound center currently ranks as the sixth-best center and 31st-best player overall in the 2027 recruiting class. Besides Florida, he also held offers from several other major programs, including UConn, Michigan State, Michigan, and Arizona.
With Awaka in the fold, the Gators now have 2 commitments in the 2027 cycle, with 4-star power forward and Washington, D.C. native Ian Condon committing back on September 29th.
Golden has turned Florida into a national powerhouse on the hardwood since he took over back in 2022, and his excellent recruiting has been a major driving force behind the program’s success. With 2 high-profile recruits already secured, it looks like 2027 is shaping up to be yet another superb recruiting class in Gainesville.
