Florida made SEC history with 72 points in the paint against Alabama
Florida put together a historically-dominant showing in the paint with its 100-77 win over Alabama on Sunday in Gainesville.
The Gators registered 72 points in the paint โ a massive number, especially in comparison to Alabama’s 26 such points. But that 76 points also stands out in recent history, as Cole Cubelic notes below. This is most paint points scored by any team in an SEC game in at least the last 20 years.
In setting that record, Florida actually topped a previous high-water mark that was set just last month when Arkansas poured in 66 points in the paint in a win over South Carolina.
For college hoops as a whole, Butler has the most paint points in one game since 2016. The Bulldogs scored a whopping 92 points in the paint in a win over The Citadel back in November of 2015, per Radar360.
As for the Gators, Florida’s efforts on Sunday were led by forwards Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh, who scored 25 and 22 points, respectively. Center Rueben Chinyelu also chipped in 14 points.
Florida will be back in action again on Saturday against Texas A&M in a battle for first place in the SEC standings.
