The Florida Gators are the No. 3 team in the college basketball to open the 2025-26 season. Alex Condon has taken the mantle from Walter Clayton Jr. as Florida’s best player. You may think that means there’s a drop-off coming for the Gators, but you shouldn’t count on that being the case.

On Monday afternoon, the AP announced their preseason All-American team. Condon, a 6-foot-11, 230 lb. forward/center, snagged the final spot on the roster. He’s the lone SEC player on the team, which features a pair of Big Ten and Big 12 players:

  • Braden Smith (Purdue)*
  • JT Toppin (Texas Tech)
  • Yaxel Lendeborg (Michigan)
  • AJ Dybantsa (BYU)
  • Alex Condon (Florida)

*Unanimous selection

Condon received 16 of 57 votes to snare a place on the All-American team. Smith (57/57) and Toppin (52/57) were the only players to appear on more than 60% of ballots.

Condon averaged 10.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game across 37 contests (35 starts) in 2024-25. He improved his 3-point shot by nearly 4% (28.9% to 32.8%) last season. His ability to stretch the floor led him to declare for the NBA Draft shortly after Florida won the championship. but he eventually elected to return to college and continue developing his offensive game. He was the No. 29 prospect in ESPN’s NBA Draft rankings prior to opting to stay in Gainesville.

Condon and the Gators open the 2025-26 season against Arizona on Nov. 3 in the Hall of Fame Series. That neutral floor matchup, in Las Vegas, will tip at 7 p.m. ET (TNT).
