Karl Ravech calls SEC record comment ‘tongue-in-cheek’ after social media criticism

Karl Ravech was the most recent media person to comment on the SEC record being .500 since the start of conference play as he was on the call for Alabama’s win against Texas on Tuesday night. During the broadcast, Ravech mentioned how the conference has been since the start of conference play.
“We know how dominant they were in the nonconference season, the SEC,” Ravech said on Tuesday night. “They were 185-23. Since January 4, into Tuesday, SEC teams are 82-82 … There’s been no ability to pull away. There’s no dominant group of teams.”
That timeline correclates with the fact that the teams have played only conference games since then, which would give the teams in the conference a guaranteed .500 winning percentage. On Tuesday afternoon, Ravech posted on social media that his comment was ‘tongue-in-cheek’.
“Just landed and see X is on fire,” Ravech posted on X. “Simple explanation. Tongue in cheek 82-82 record was to illustrate any night either team can win and one will. Clearly very poor execution on my part. It is amazing that Alabama/Auburn have only lost once in such a great conference. That’s all.”
With conference play in full effect, the SEC will continue to have a .500 winning percentage through the end of the season, just like every other conference.
