The timing of this injury is certainly ominous for Mizzou. Mitchell has been the Tigers’ best player this season and is crucial to what they want to accomplish on both sides of the floor, but particularly on offense. He’s averaging a career-high 14.3 points per game this season while shooting better than 50% from the floor.
If Mitchell is forced to miss any additional time with this injury, it could have a significant impact on Mizzou’s chances in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers are 21-10 this season and are hoping to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009.
Mizzou lost 4 of its final 5 games to close out the regular season. The Tigers will be hoping to advance past Mississippi State on Thursday night in the SEC Tournament. The winner of this game will face Florida on Friday.
Mitchell has started all 32 games for Mizzou so far this season.
