Oklahoma defeated Texas on Saturday night in Austin to earn a much-needed win for its NCAA Tournament résumé.
In addition to earning another Quad 1 victory, this result also snaps an 8-game losing streak to the Longhorns for Oklahoma. This was the first-ever win over Texas for Oklahoma coach Porter Moser, who is in his 4th year with the program.
This was billed as an absolute must-win game for either program with regards to their NCAA Tournament hopes. For Oklahoma, the Sooners now have 6 Quad 1 wins on the season. That may be enough to get into the Big Dance despite just a 6-12 record in SEC play. Oklahoma picked up wins over Michigan, Arizona and Louisville during nonconference action to help boost its résumé.
Adding to the impressive road win, Oklahoma. earned the victory without starting center Sam Godwin, who suffered a knee injury in OU’s last game. His status for the future remains uncertain.
Oklahoma will face Georgia in the 1st round of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday — another opportunity for a Quad 1 victory. A win over the Bulldogs would likely mean Oklahoma is safely into the field of 68, while a loss would leave the Sooners nervous on Selection Sunday.
