South Carolina basketball added to its 2026-27 roster on Friday with the commitment of 6-foot-9 international prospect Mathias Vazquez, who played for Real Betis Baloncesto Bย of theย Tercera FEB. In addition, Vazquez suited up for the Brazilian national team.

Vazquez is an 18-year old power forward who is likely to redshirt during his first year with the Gamecocks, having torn his ACL in May. He’s the third international prospect added by head coach Lamont Paris this offseason, joining Juan Fernandez (Argentina) and Hugo Lopez (Spain), both of whom committed to the Gamecocks across the past few days.

Vazquez is perhaps the most talented of the additions by South Carolina thus far. He averaged 17.7 points, 8 rebounds and 3.2 assists during the 2024-25 season and was considered a top international prospect for this year’s draft before his ACL tear.

In addition to 3 international commitments, South Carolina hoops landed 6 transfers this offseason: Kory Mincy (George Mason), Cam Heide (Texas), Aleksas Bieliauskas (Wisconsin), Jakub Necas (Duquesne), Davion Hannah (Alabama) and Shane Blakeney (Drexel).

It’s a big year for Lamont Paris. After finishing 26-8 in Year 2, Paris’ Gamecocks have won just 6 conference games and posted back-to-back losing seasons.
