Tennessee guard Terrence Hill Jr. suffers apparent ankle injury in exhibition vs. Duke

Tennessee guard Terrence Hill Jr. was one of Rick Barnes’ big acquisitions from the transfer portal. The guard joined the Volunteers after two seasons at VCU, where he was an All-Atlantic 10 first-team performer in 2026.
There’s concern among the Vols fanbase on Tuesday night, though, after what happened during an exhibition game against Duke in Durham. Barely four and a half minutes into the contest, Hill was forced to leave after suffering an apparent left ankle injury.
Take a look:
According to On3’s Mike Wilson, Hill returned to the Tennessee bench after receiving treatment but was on crutches.
The Portland native’s prognosis obviously won’t be known for some time. But if Hill is out for any length of time, it will be a big blow to the Volunteers’ backcourt. In 36 games, he averaged 15.0 points and 2.8 assists for the Rams in 2025-26, playing 25.0 minutes per game. Despite two starts, he received the team’s third-most minutes.
Tuesday marked the Vols’ second and final exhibition game, which they lost 103-64. It came five days after an 86-70 home defeat to Xavier. These games don’t count in the standings, but Barnes certainly won’t be happy with his team’s performance in either one, with or without Hill.
The Volunteers open their season on Nov. 3 against Wofford. Counting Hill, nine players joined the team out of the transfer portal. The Vols also signed four high school players, including four-star small forwards Ralph Scott and Chris Washington Jr.
