With their teams set to meet Saturday in the SEC Championship Game, it’s no surprise that assistants from Georgia and LSU are named finalists for the Broyles Award.
Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning and LSU passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Joe Brady are among 5 finalists for the award that goes to the top assistant in college football. The other finalists are Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Snow, Ohio State co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach Jeff Hafley and Utah defensive coordinator/safeties Morgan Scalley.
Brady and Lanning lead to of the best units in college football as their respective groups finished No. 1 in the SEC in 3 major categories each. Both are also in their first year at this position.
The 5 coaches will travel to Little Rock, Arkansas for the announcement of the 2019 Broyles Award winner on Tuesday, December 10th at the Marriott Hotel. The Broyles Award was created in 1996 recognizing Coach Frank Broyles’ legacy of selecting and developing great assistants during his hall of fame career as head coach at Arkansas.
The finalists were selected from a group of 15 semi-finalists and 41 nominees by a selection committee made of up former hall of fame coaches, members of the Football Writers Association of America and broadcasters.
