2020 SEC football schedule: 3 easiest schedules for next year
By Adam Spencer
Published:
The SEC released its 2020 football schedule on Wednesday, and it’s fair to say not all schedules are created equal.
While there are some very difficult schedules out there (and navigating the SEC is never easy), there are also some more manageable slates of games.
Below, we break down the three easiest schedules for the 2020 campaign (listed in alphabetical order, not by order of difficulty):
Florida
Sept. 5 | EASTERN WASHINGTON |
Sept. 12 | KENTUCKY |
Sept. 19 | SOUTH ALABAMA |
Sept. 26 | at Tennessee |
Oct. 3 | SOUTH CAROLINA |
Oct. 10 | LSU |
Oct. 17 | at Ole Miss |
Oct. 24 | Open Date |
Oct. 31 | vs. Georgia (Jacksonville) |
Nov. 7 | at Vanderbilt |
Nov. 14 | MISSOURI |
Nov. 21 | NEW MEXICO STATE |
Nov. 28 | at Florida State |
The Gators’ nonconference schedule will be stronger if Florida State can ever dig its way out of its current hole. I don’t expect that to happen by next fall, though, so it looks like 4-0 in non-SEC action. Then, the Gators get Ole Miss in the division crossover game.
Hosting Missouri, Kentucky and LSU is also a big benefit, so I see this as a very manageable slate for Dan Mullen’s squad.
Missouri
Sept. 5 | CENTRAL ARKANSAS |
Sept. 12 | VANDERBILT |
Sept. 19 | at South Carolina |
Sept. 26 | EASTERN MICHIGAN |
Oct. 3 | at Tennessee |
Oct. 10 | at BYU |
Oct. 17 | GEORGIA |
Oct. 24 | KENTUCKY |
Oct. 31 | Open Date |
Nov. 7 | at Mississippi State |
Nov. 14 | at Florida |
Nov. 21 | UL-LAFAYETTE |
Nov. 28 | ARKANSAS |
The Tigers’ toughest nonconference game is at BYU, but that should be manageable even after losing QB Kelly Bryant after the 2019 season. Traveling to South Carolina is always tough for Mizzou, and a road trip to Mississippi State isn’t the easiest SEC East-West crossover game, but it isn’t Alabama or LSU, either.
The road to 9 wins is certainly there for the Tigers in 2020, but obviously, a lot can happen between now and then.
Texas A&M
Sept. 5 | ABILENE CHRISTIAN |
Sept. 12 | NORTH TEXAS |
Sept. 19 | COLORADO |
Sept. 26 | vs. ARKANSAS (Arlington) |
Oct. 3 | at Mississippi State |
Oct. 10 | FRESNO STATE |
Oct. 17 | at Auburn |
Oct. 24 | at South Carolina |
Oct. 31 | Open Date |
Nov. 7 | OLE MISS |
Nov. 14 | VANDERBILT |
Nov. 21 | at Alabama |
Nov. 28 | LSU |
Getting Clemson off the nonconference schedule is a welcome sign for the Aggies, who will be entering Year 3 under coach Jimbo Fisher. Ending the year at Alabama and against LSU won’t be easy, but the rest of that schedule seems very manageable.
Abilene Christian, North Texas, Colorado and Fresno State (all home games) shouldn’t be too difficult in nonconference play. Getting Vanderbilt as an SEC East-West crossover matchup is beneficial, too.
