The William V. Campbell Trophy is “college football’s premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.” On Wednesday, the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame named 18 finalists for the honor, six of whom are seniors from SEC institutions.

Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown, Kentucky defensive back Ty Bryant, Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter, Alabama defensive back Bray Hubbard, Vanderbilt linebacker Nick Rinaldi and Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton are all finalists for the Campbell Trophy. Each finalist will “receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as members of the 2026 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class.”

Brown, a from Raleigh, NC, joined the Tigers after four seasons at South Florida. He spearheaded Auburn’s Week 7 upset over Georgia with 265 total yards and two total touchdowns. In that game, Stockton — out of Tiger, GA — cost his team with critical turnovers, but has mostly played efficient football for the Bulldogs in 2026. His 74.1% completion percentage is best in the SEC.

Bryant, a Lexington native, intercepted two passes in Kentucky’s victory against Oklahoma. He ranks third on the Wildcats with 53 tackles. Hubbard, from Ocean Spring, MS, does a little bit of everything for the Crimson Tide. Like Bryant, he slots third on his team in tackles (36). Rinaldi, a Dover, MA product, is also third on the Commodores in tackles (42).

Carter, a native of Smyrna, TN, has the second-most tackles of any Volunteer defender (43). Each finalist, except Stockton — who’s on bye — will take the field in Week 8.
