Florida is making a quarterback change midway through the 2nd quarter against Georgia on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.
The Gators fell behind 10-0 due to a pair of regrettable turnovers from Aaron Philo. Philo threw his first interception early in the game while attempting to throw the ball away to avoid a sack.
Georgia capitalized on that mistake, scoring a touchdown on its ensuing drive. Philo was picked off again on Florida‘s third series of the day, leading to a Georgia field goal to make it 10-0.
After that second turnover, Florida opted to turn to Tramell Jones, who started in the Gators’ win over Texas a couple of weeks ago.
Philo had been questionable this week due to injury but was ultimately deemed healthy enough to start. Multiple reports have said that both Philo and Jones received first-team reps in practice this week.
It’s not yet clear whether Jones will continue to play quarterback for the Gators in this game or whether they may go back to Philo at some point.
Philo got off to a good start in September, but struggled in his last couple games before sitting due to injury. Prior to Saturday against Georgia, Philo hadn’t thrown a pass in a game since Oct. 10.
Georgia has won 8 of the last 9 games in this series. The Gators are looking for their first victory over UGA since the 2020 campaign.
