Alabama co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard is close to being named coach at another program, according to a report.

That’s per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who reports that Shephard is in talks to take over as Oregon State’s next head coach.

Shephard is in his second season as an assistant at Alabama. He previously worked for Kalen DeBoer at Washington from 2022-23 and moved to Tuscaloosa to be part of DeBoer’s staff after the 2023 campaign. Shephard also serves as Alabama’s assistant head coach.

In addition to his time with the Huskies, Shephard was the wide receivers coach at Washington State in 2016 under the legendary Mike Leach. He also previously worked as the passing game coordinator and co-offensive coordinator at Purdue before joining DeBoer at Washington.

At this time, it’s unclear what Shephard’s potential departure would mean for Alabama as it prepares for a run in the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide are expected to earn at least an at-large berth in the CFP if they beat Auburn on Saturday in the Iron Bowl. A win over the Tigers would also secure a place in the SEC Championship Game for Alabama.
