Alec Johnson is a three-star recruit, but he’s probably feeling more like a five-star this weekend.

The 6-5, 240-pound defensive end from Montgomery, Ala. received the ultimate compliment for an Alabama high school football player.

On Friday, he received an offer from the Crimson Tide:

On Saturday, Auburn followed suit:

Jackson, who already had SEC offers from South Carolina, Kentucky and Mississippi State, appears to be seeing his stock rise as a member of the 2017 recruiting class.

He told AL.com on Saturday that he grew up an Auburn fan, so that may be a good sign for Gus Malzahn in this in-state recruiting battle.

“They hug you and comfort you,” he said. “You feel like you’re already playing there and are ready to strap on and be an Auburn Tiger… They’re up there. They have to be up there. Like I said, it’s been a long time coming. I’ve been waiting for this for the longest.”

But he’s not overlooking the potential of playing for the Crimson Tide simply because of his Auburn fandom. He gave a pretty revealing quote about Friday’s visit to Tuscaloosa:

“When I first walked in and saw the big thing full of rings, I said, ‘Coach I’ve to go see this right quick,'” Jackson said. “I had to videotape it and take pictures. Lots of big rings up in there… Football wise, they get to the ball, flying to the ball, fast-paced. I love that. That’s me. That describes me.”

According to that report, Jackson is tentatively planning to hold off until National Signing Day to announce his decision.
