Alabama silenced the doubters last weekend with a massive victory vs. Georgia. In the joyous aftermath, Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack and quarterback Ty Simpson shared an emotional embrace.
During a press conference on Monday, Wommack touched on what that special moment meant to him.
“I’ve known Ty since he was 6 years old. This is a team that I think is playing with an edge right now. I think Ty is a huge piece to us playing with an edge,” Wommack said. “I think defensively we’re playing with more of an edge. When you go do the things and put the things on tape against Florida State and then have to go answer the bell like we have the last few weeks and then get an SEC road win, it was a good moment.”
Simpson passed for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win vs. the Bulldogs. Wommack is grateful that Simpson is on his side as the Crimson Tide aim to take another step forward in Kalen DeBoer‘s second season in Tuscaloosa.
“It was a special moment between him and I. He’s a fighter and a leader for our football team,” Wommack said. “I just wanted him to know that I recognize and appreciate all the work he’s put in to give us a chance to respond and win on the road.”
No. 10 Alabama takes on visiting No. 16 Vanderbilt on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET/ABC).
