Alabama DL Raekwon Davis wants to put disappointing 2018 behind him, return to ‘sophomore Rae’

The 2018 season was a rough one for Alabama DL Raekwon Davis. Entering the year as a projected first-round 2019 NFL Draft pick, he struggled, recording only 55 tackles (5.5 for a loss) and 1.5 sacks.
That came after an outstanding sophomore campaign in 2017, when he recorded 69 tackles (10 for a loss) and 8.5 sacks.
On Tuesday, Davis said he wants to show that the sophomore version of himself is the norm and his 2018 campaign was a fluke (via 247Sports):
โBasically just getting back to my old self, to that sophomore Rae, to that sophomore pass-rushing Rae,โ Davis said Tuesday.
โLast year, it was pretty much me and stuff I didnโt do, like the little things. The little things matter. Last year, as a person, I wasnโt doing it. I just feel like it wasnโt me last year. I feel like this is my chance to prove myself to everybody, like my team, that I can do it and I can be that role model, that leader I was supposed to have been. Thatโs about it.โ
Davis has the size and strength to be a force for the Crimson Tide this year. With his eligibility up after 2019, he’ll be extra motivated to put some good film together for NFL squads.
He could still be a first-round pick, but he’ll need to show that “Sophomore Rae” is still in there somewhere.
