Alabama expected to hire former Auburn, Ole Miss assistant as WR coach, per report

Derrick Nix is reportedly changing sides in the Iron Bowl rivalry.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports is reporting that Nix is set to be the new wide receivers coach at Alabama. Nix has been on staff at Auburn for the past two seasons.
Alabama is expected to hire Derrick Nix as its new wide receivers coach, sources tell @CBSSports.

An Attalla, Alabama native, Nix got into coaching after a playing career at Southern Miss. Since 2008, he has been coaching in the SEC.
Nix was on staff at Ole Miss from 2008-23. From 2008-19, Nix coached Rebels running backs. When Lane Kiffin took over as Ole Miss head coach in 2020, Nix made the move to coaching wide receivers.
In 2024, Nix reunited with former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, taking the offensive coordinator position at Auburn. In addition to his OC responsibilities, Nix also coached Tiger running backs.
Nix got his coaching start at Southern Miss, his alma mater, in 2003 as a graduate assistant. He then coached tight ends (2004-05) and running backs (2006-07) for the program.
Kalen DeBoer has been searching for a new wide receivers coach with JaMarcus Shephard taking the head coaching job at Oregon State.
