Alabama is cruising toward landing a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

That’s according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, who notes that Purdue is also solidly in that discussion. The Boilermakers and Crimson Tide are also the top 2 teams in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.

Per Lunardi, Alabama and Purdue are “as solid as can be” in the hunt for a No. 1 seed.

Houston, Tennessee and Kansas are currently the other top contenders to land a No. 1 seed, per Lunardi. Alabama will face the Vols in Knoxville on Feb. 15.

If Alabama does land the top seed, it would be its first in program history. The Crimson Tide have been a No. 2 seed in 3 different NCAA Tournaments, most recently in 2021.

Alabama has won 8 straight games, including a victory over Kentucky and a road win at Arkansas. The Tide are 17-2 overall and 7-0 in SEC play.

Alabama will host Mississippi State on Wednesday as it looks to improve to 8-0 in conference play.
