Alabama scores on pick-6 as Luke Metz intercepts Kentucky QB Kenny Minchey

Things could not have started worse for Alabama in Lexington. Then Luke Metz stepped up in a big way for the Crimson Tide.
Keelon Russell and the Alabama offense had a disastrous first two possessions. Russell threw a pick-6 deep in Crimson Tide territory on Alabama’s first possession. The second UA possession ended with a Russell fumble.
Facing an early double-digit deficit, it was up to the UA defense to slow upset-minded Kentucky’s early momentum. The Tide D delivered in a big way, as linebacker Luke Metz picked off Kentucky QB Kenny Minchey in UK territory.
The pick guaranteed that Alabama would be set up well to score. Instead, Metz took it himself for the score. Caught around the 35-yard line, Metz maneuvered his way around the Wildcats and managed to stay inbounds running down the sideline for the score.
The extra point was true, tying things up 7-7 in the 1st quarter.

It remains a 7-7 score at the end of the 1st quarter. The game can be seen on ABC.
