Alabama is gearing up for its SEC opener on Saturday when the Crimson Tide hits the road to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. The Crimson Tide defeated East Carolina, 48-10.

The Crimson Tide are dealing with some injuries headed into the game, as they will be without Michael Carroll and AK Dear.

Carroll was listed as doubtful for much of the week, but Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer and the training staff decided he will not play. Losing your starting guard in Carroll is tough for freshman quarterback Keelon Russell, as he is making his first career road start. Having experienced, starting lineman can help a young quarterback overcome tough situations.

Also out for Alabama is AK Dear, who has been out since mid-August after he suffered a severe ankle injury in a team scrimmage. The injury timeline was expected to be around six weeks, so he is getting closer to being back and rolling for the Crimson Tide.

The game on Saturday is a major step up in competition, and having to do so on the road for a freshman quarterback will make this a tough challenge. As the Crimson Tide are dealing with injuries, other players are going to have to step up and make plays.
