Auburn couldn’t run the football on Saturday. Alongside frustrating penalties and an inability to protect the football, its lack of a ground game contributed to the Tigers’ 4th loss of the season, 45-15 at the hands of Ole Miss.

The numbers paint the picture. Auburn totaled 27 carries and amassed just 63 yards at a dismal 2.3 yards per carry. Byrum Brown found the end zone once and Jeremiah Cobb averaged 5 yards per carry, but it was far from effective enough to answer Ole Miss’ late barrage. Despite this, Cobb did not attempt any rushes after Byrum Brown’s 3rd quarter TD.

Following the game, Auburn head coach Alex Golesh said that Auburn’s poor run game wasn’t for a lack of trying. “We certainly tried,” Golesh said, via Justin Hokanson. “We kept leaning on it until we had to go into a two-minute mode.”

Despite missing their starting running back, Ole Miss was dominant on the ground Saturday. The Rebels rushed for 224 yards across 49 carries, averaging 4.6 yards per carry with 4 touchdowns. That stark difference won the Rebels the day and continued their bid for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Auburn, on the other hand, sits at 4-4 and 2-4 in conference play, having lost 3 of its last 4. Their lone win, naturally, was a 27-24 stunner over No. 1 Georgia.

That’s college football for you.
