Alex Golesh and the South Florida Bulls are off to as good of start as anyone in college football. They knocked off Boise State in Week 1, and then followed that up with a monster upset against then No. 13 Florida on Saturday on a last-second field goal.
After the game, Golesh gave an emotional postgame interview, as he gave a shoutout to former Bulls basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim.
“Bunch of guys that just bought into a vision when it wasn’t cool,” Golesh said. “This ain’t the same old South Florida, my brother.”
Abdur-Rahm was the basketball coach for the Bulls, when he passed away at 43 years old in October. He was regarded as one of the best young coaching minds in the sport. Like Golesh, he had the Bulls taking the next step, and he had a major impact on everybody at South Florida.
For Golesh, the Bulls are off to a dream start as they prepare for another tough game against Miami. With the new College Football Playoff format, the top champion from a non-Power-4 conference earns a spot in the bracket.
Kickoff next week is at Miami at 4:30 p.m. ET on the CW Network.
