Alex Golesh on Auburn’s first scrimmage: ‘Sloppy day on both sides’

Auburn is 3 weeks away from kicking off the 2026 season. It sounds like the Tigers have some work to do.
First-year head coach Alex Golesh spoke to the media after AU’s first scrimmage, and shared that it wasn’t pretty.
“I would say overall a sloppy day on both sides,” Golesh said. “(I could) make an excuse and say, ‘Man, first scrimmage, first time…’ We didn’t look like a veteran team. We look like a team that has highs and lows and is emotional and rides with that, which is the complete opposite of what we want. So, a lot to work on, (we’ve got )time to work on and that’s the truth on that.”

Auburn‘s first game under Golesh is no cupcake. For the second consecutive year, the Tigers open the season against Baylor. Last year, Auburn traveled to Waco and played Baylor, falling 38-24. This year’s meeting is being held at Merecedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as the Aflac Kickoff Game (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
